Shennong’s Root provides educational food and traditional-practice information only. It does not diagnose, treat, or prevent disease and is not a substitute for care from a qualified healthcare professional.

Availability

This privacy policy is provided as a normal active public webpage at https://hopescript.com/shennongs-root/privacy/. It is not a PDF and is intended to be accessible without geofencing.

Accounts, Ads, Sale, and Tracking

Shennong’s Root does not require an account. The app does not show advertising, does not sell personal information, and does not use cross-app tracking.

Information Stored on Your Device

Journal notes, bookmarks, filters, and recent scan history are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded by Hopescript or Shennong’s Root.

Camera, Photos, and Menu Text

Camera and photo access are used only for barcode and menu scanning after you grant permission. Menu photos and recognized text are processed on-device.

Google ML Kit

Shennong’s Root uses Google ML Kit for on-device text recognition. The app does not send menu images or recognized text to Google for OCR. ML Kit may collect limited app, device, performance, usage, and diagnostic information, as described in Google’s ML Kit disclosure.

Open Food Facts Barcode Lookup

When you scan or enter a barcode, Shennong’s Root sends the barcode to Open Food Facts and may receive product data and product images in return. The network request may include your IP address and User-Agent. Open Food Facts handles that information under its own terms and privacy practices.

Product data comes from Open Food Facts. The database is available under the Open Database License (ODbL), individual contents are available under the Database Contents License, and product images are available under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA).

Your Choices

You can clear local data in the app via About & Safety → Clear Personal Data. You can revoke camera or photo permission in iOS or Android system settings, or uninstall the app to remove app data managed by the operating system.
